Mobile Information Call Act may pose annoyance to cell phone owners

   Congress is considering passing a new bill that will give a limited group of telemarketers the opportunity to call cell phones.

   “Our company [Verizon] hasn’t taken a large stance on the act yet, as it was just recently introduced so there isn’t much public knowledge on its part yet,” Verizon Assistant Vice President of Internet and Technology, Link Hoewing, said.

   Currently, it is illegal for businesses to use automatic dialing systems to reach cell phones, but this act could change that, allowing telemarketers to use random number generators to call cell phones.

Tampa Prepares For Critical Convention

  Preparation is underway for the 2012 Republican National Convention at the St. Pete Times Forum, kicking off the next step in the 2012 Presidential race.

   The convention, which will begin on August 27, 2012, is expected to draw national crowds including government officials, Republican candidates, as well as other Republicans participating in the 2012 Presidential Primary Elections.
